Re: MORE TILAPIA FROM YOUR AFRICAN CORRESPONDENT

Tilapia are great to eat and very easy to fillet. They are a very invasive species and a bit like Redfin in that they can out-breed themselves ending up with a lot of small fish. In Zambia we get 4 main species of Tilapia of which I have managed 3 so far. Where I fish the locals do so much netting w...

MORE TILAPIA FROM YOUR AFRICAN CORRESPONDENT

Just spent 2 days throwing plastics aimed at Yellowbelly Tilapia (Nemwe) and anything else that was hungry in the Kafue River in Zambia. I kept 4 fish each day throwing back about a dozen smaller fish a day. The locals think you are completely crazy putting back small fish as anything longer than ab...

Re: hi everyone

When I was a boy my father had no interest in fishing (apart from eating what I caught!) but I fished just about every weekend in the various Western District and South Gippsland places we lived in. My son had every opportunity to fish including offshore at Bermagui in our own boat but he never pick...

Re: UPPER GLENELG FISHING

Thanks for the info guys - where I used to fish is a long way North of Nelson and I know from the DPIE stocking reports that the Glenelg past Casterton gets stocked with nothing these days - although that does not mean there are no fish.

Re: What's your biggest Redfin?

Lake Fyans many years back one morning gave us 3 Redfin taken on live gudeon all between 3 lb 9 oz and 4 lbs (no metrics in those days!)

UPPER GLENELG FISHING

As a teenager (many years ago) I regularly fished the Glenelg River North of Casteron (up around Roseneath for example). Am thinking of a "nostalgia" trip a bit later in the year but was wondering if anyone here has fished this area in recent years and, if so, how did they get on? Many thanks from P...

Re: ZAMBEZI RIVER TIGERFISH

Tigers are dynamite on light line and jump a lot and often throw the hook as they have very hard mouths. They are not much to eat as they have many small bones - we usually release them but that one went to a friend. Tilapia are delicious though!

ZAMBEZI RIVER TIGERFISH

A very unlucky tiger from the upper Zambezi River near the Congo/Zambia border in deepest darkest Africa! - took a small soft plastic on 6lb line while fishing for yellowbelly tilapia. Check out the teeth! We usually fish for Tigerfish with wire traces and hard bodied lures as the small ones trash s...

Re: Are there still Cichlids in Hazelwood?

Tilapia at IT.jpg Awesome, I'll shoot him a PM. Thanks guys. Ive had African Cichlids in a tank for the last 10 years or so. Will be funny to try and catch them :P They are a species of Tilapia in Hazelwood - am from the Land of Oz but reside in Zambia these days. We get Yellowbelly Tilapia (known ...
