Re: Fisherman’s beach kayak fishing
Hey mate - I can't guarantee it, and I am super new to the whole game, but I am thinking of having a go at this same spot tomorrow due to low winds and good tides. I have a grey 3.6m Viking Profish GT with an orange hi-vis flag, so if you see me around 10-11am come and say gday. I am intending to he...

Re: Alvey Sidecast surf combo.
I've used alveys off the beach and rocks almost exclusively for the last 17 years. I still use a couple of threadlines and overheads, but all my heavier (30lb+) beach and rock outfits are alveys. To be honest, if I had the money, I would upgrade one of these outfits to a heavy duty fully sealed thre...

Re: Squid calamari fridge
Best thing is to avoid putting it in the fridge altogether and simply dry it. We have the perfect climate for it, hot, low humidity and so on Yummy https://i.imgur.com/xjIafC8.jpg You say "simply" dry it, but I suspect there is more to it than that. I've had a quick google and didn't find much - co...

Re: Learning Ocean Conditions.
Yes, I'm not touching the other (location) topic with a barge pole, and I certainly take your point skronkman, a point well made (as per your yacht incident in the other thread). As such, I am not taking sides either. What I' m trying to emphasise - and I concede that it is largely a terminological/...

Re: Learning Ocean Conditions.
I %100 agree with the intent of this post. Anyone engaging in saltwater fishing should take some time to learn some basics for their preferred spots. They apply especially to surf, rock, and boat-fishing, but can be important on piers/jetties in heavy weather also. My time rock/cliff fishing in WA t...
Re: Harpoons
The whaling information centre in Albany WA might have some info for you (there are probably still pockets of info in Portland and Warrnambool as well, but I know the Albany centre/museum is active and dedicated to whaling). Those are awesome gifts, by the way - a fantastic slice of history.

Re: Ballarat LB Saltwater Fishos
Thanks for the positive responses guys - I've had one promising response via PM. Great idea to post a proposed trip thread trip-by-trip! (Being newish here I didn't want to congest the board with stuff either). It def can be hard solo when 90 mins from the water...especially when the best water (IMH...
