Re: Carp...

Try the Yarra River, anywhere upstream of Koonung Creek (Bulleen) - it's the most polluted creek in the whole Yarra catchment, and most pollution readings upstream of it generally are pretty good. Plenty of them to be caught downstream as well, but the water quality is more dubious (I keep hearing r...

Re: Newbie - good fishing spot Heildelberg area

Try Sills Bend, Fannings Bend, the mountain bike track along the river through Banyule Flats. Most of the banks in the area are too high for easy land-based fishing, so what spots are accessible mostly have trails leading down to them already which makes them relatively easy to scope out.

Re: Show us your purchases!

fishing gear 2.jpg Had some birthday cash and gift cards for BCF to splash around, so I've made shameless use of the Easter Sale and the 20% off this weekend. I've been wanting a baitcaster and a cod rod for a while, and got the daiwa laguna 6-12kg. Also some fireline exceed 30lb braid for it (but ...

Re: Launching a canoe around Tooradin

So I went out on Monday morning at Reef Island, launching at sunrise from the end of Soldier's Road, and pulling out at 11am in order to get back on time to Melbourne. Lovely morning, but came away with donuts - toadies pinched all the bait, and lots of floating weed and seagrass kept getting caught...

Re: Cape Paterson and Inverloch 13-14/3

Looks like it's off the edge of the road coming in from inverloch. Massive kings there. No, I'm pretty sure it's the rocks between Brown's Bay and Undertow Bay. At 0:16, you can see the road down to the Boat Ramp and the Bay Clubhouse very clearly, and at 1:05, you can see Undertow Bay on the other...

Looks like off the end of the rocks between the Bay Lifesaving Club and Undertow Bay.

open canoe - this is it ready to go out off Cape Paterson early this year. It's mostly been in the Yarra since I built it, but also Anderson Inlet, Cape Pat and Blue Rock Lake.

Re: Launching a canoe around Tooradin

Thanks Laneends and Cheaterparts, that's excellent advice. My only problem is that this Monday, I have to be back in Melbourne by about 1-1:30, so I'm heading down to Cape the night before to put the canoe on the car and then head out at first light next morning. If I go out from Tooradin, I can pul...

Re: Launching a canoe around Tooradin

Thanks guys, that's a great idea. I've just looked at it on google maps and it looks perfect. I'm not worried about steepness, I'm used to manhandling the canoe up and down the banks of the Yarra, so a bit of steepness in the ramp shouldn't be an issue. I did think of Corinella, as a fallback (or ma...

Launching a canoe around Tooradin

If I can, I'm thinking of maybe taking my canoe out for a fish off Tooradin on Monday, and am wondering if there are any places to launch other than the boat ramp? I don't really want to use it for two reasons: If I don't have to pay to launch, then I'd rather not; but I also don't want to launch on...
