It was a British TV show. Perhaps the head is of a Nile perch which also grow big. Britain controlled quite a number of African countries in the past.

Re: What does 'Murray Cod' mean to you?

I think of Rod Harrison Everybody that chases cod today owe an enormous debt to Rod Harrison, Gordon Winter, Bryan Pratt and Vic McCrystal. They changed the image of native fish, including Murray cod, from a food supply to be taken by any means to valued sportsfish. They did a total makeover and be...

There really is nothing else like them around today.

I still have a few, use them, and are in my top 5 all time lures.

The original Mitchell spinners were also brilliant lures.

Yesterday I had an early finish and I thought the conditions were perfect for winter cod fishing and came up trumps. For some reason I thought that with the colder wat...

Re: Storing bardi grubs long term?

Blue's response was pretty well spot on.

The other old fashioned method was to pickle them in port. That seems to work well, prevents them turning black and the grubs seem to work just as effectively, in fact they stay on the hook better.

Nah Graham, thats not me, he's too tall! A lot of hyperbole in the article (helps to get funding). In fact there have been 2 metre plus cod taken in the last hundred years, there are several news items about them, typically of 200 pound plus fish. Here is one example: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspa...

Re: Carp herpes virus - alarm bells ringing

I think the biggest concern at this point is massive ecological damage due to enormous numbers of dead carp putrefying in waterways. This could lead to a collapse of the australian freshwater biosphere, even to threatening fresh water supplies and agriculture, not to mention the loss of sensitive n...
