Re: Show us your purchases!

New outboard for my punt:

new outboard.jpg

$2200 including fuel tank from the boating place in Shep.

Bought a few other bits and pieces too including my Redington CT fly rod and some rod tubes. I've been working 6 to 7 days a week so have put the money made to good use!

Best Wishes

Re: Redington Classic Trout Fly Rod

I had another cast with the 4wt Classic Trout last night and compared it to my 6wt Clearwater. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY GOOD ROD FOR THE MONEY!!! I was routinely placing 12-14 m casts and landing them on the same spot. The line rolls out beautifully and doesn't land in coils if you screw up a bit. When...

Re: Redington Classic Trout Fly Rod

funny when you make the step to fly fishing from conventional spinning gear how much more expensive everything gets It doesn't have to be that way. There is so much hype in fly fishing - and a lot of BS to go with it. You can learn to fly fish with a low budget kit, but something a bit better is ea...

Re: Redington Classic Trout Fly Rod

what I gather is though, the CT rods quality surpasses the locally available stock at the same pricepoint, would that be a fair assessment? Did it come with a reel, or was that extra? Brett I wouldn't necessarily say its quality (i.e. construction, components) is better than a $200 rod you can buy ...

Redington Classic Trout Fly Rod

I've been working 6-7 days a week for a few months and so have only been able to dream about having a fish. One thing I intended doing was buy a light fly rod for chasing trout in the high country. I've currently got a 6wt Clearwater rod but did a bit of research in selecting a 4wt rod for small str...

Re: Still Using Old Rods??

The slow action definitely helps do you use these for bait fishing. Yes, the slower action rods are great for bait fishing, you seem to get more hookups with the timid bites. Also, they are of great benefit when fishing with light line as they have more give and cushion the impact of sudden rushes....

Re: Still Using Old Rods??

Much of my fishing is done with tackle dating from the 1950s/60s era. My spinning gear for streams: Ross tubular steel rod and Mitchell 300 reel. Bait fishing gear for streams: JW Stanley cane rod and Crouch reel. Bait fishing for cod: JW Tamar cane rod and Crouch 77 reel. There are a few other old ...

Re: what kind of fish species are these mate?

The pictures aren't clear enough to make a definite id. BTW tupong (also known as congolli) and flat headed gudgeon are not the same species. Tupong grow much bigger, to over 40 cm, while 8 cm is a big gudgeon. From details in the second pic it is probably a goby of some sort, possibly a bridled gob...

It was a British TV show. Perhaps the head is of a Nile perch which also grow big. Britain controlled quite a number of African countries in the past.

Re: What does 'Murray Cod' mean to you?

I think of Rod Harrison Everybody that chases cod today owe an enormous debt to Rod Harrison, Gordon Winter, Bryan Pratt and Vic McCrystal. They changed the image of native fish, including Murray cod, from a food supply to be taken by any means to valued sportsfish. They did a total makeover and be...
