Not sure what you guys are doing but I've been bitten off once in the last 10 years or so. For the last few years or we have been using 30lb braid backing with 30-40lb tough mono or fluro leader for gummies but I would have easily caught in excess of 100 gummies using 20lb mono. I use them exclusively for carp fishing as i have found carp to be very intelligent and i often have the cheese or corn stolen off the hook without even seeing the bite

For what you want to do either choice will do it with ease, you will have your strong daiwa and shimano advocates tell you different but it is almost a coin flip situation Google "daiwa saltist vs shimano saragossa" theres plenty of discussion out there, particularly on more specialised forums where...

You are on the money with the saragossa, you wont do any better on your budget

Avoid the okuma for surf work, has a massive hole in the back for the antireverse switch, even the most gentle
Splash ends up with water/sand inside the reel
