Re: gold coast fishing trip

Was up on the GC few weeks back. Saw an amazing array of fish in the river. Was based near the casino, so most fishing was around that part of river. Saw big bream mooching the oysters on the river bank, mullet frollocking on the surface, garfish, sand whiting and even saw a squid on our last day. M...

Can you take the spool off the reel and use something to push it out?

Re: Rod/Reel setup for game fishing

Cheers for the replies Wooly and nudeup! Went with one of each so I can form my own opinion of the differences and pro's and con's of each. 370m of 60lb coloured J braid and 350m of 60lb hollowcore j braid on the other.

Re: baitcaster reel/overhead reels

Fair enough. I used to use a baitcaster when lure fishing for bream because it was easier to constantly cast with one hand. And i also used that same baitcaster in my spread of bait rods just because it was there, so why not. But it never really occurred to me to purposely buy one to target snapper...

Re: Rod/Reel setup for game fishing

Hey guys, want some opinions on different fishing lines for light game fishing(tuna/kingies). Have purchased a pair of Fin Nor lt100(spin reel) and Terez 100lb rods to match. Have only used mono and regular braid(fused and weaved) when fishing and now been recommended hollow core braid to spool the...

Re: Apollo bay whiting

Caught a few landbased around Point Bunbury. Reportedly great kgw fishing around Marengo reef sanctuary, but am yet to try myself. Fresh squid and food grade prawn(sometimes as a cocktail bait) has done the most damage. Pop into the surf/tackle shop on the right as you come into town as they usually...

Re: Downrigger alternative for kayak

Recently been contemplating something similar for my boat to chase kingies. Been looking at the Alvey wide spool boat reels and think Im going to match it to a super short stiff sidecast boat rod and load it with 50-100lb mono, downrigger weight and quick release clip.

Re: Why not...?

Nice score! Was checking out the skis set up for fishing at last years boat show. Pretty versatile considering their size. Jet ski's are heaps fun even if they are the pariahs of the bay.
