Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Ended up heading to Apex boat ramp and got a few dozen prawns but not big. Caught much larger specimens and more at Lake Tyers last year. Still good to get out and enough for a small feed! No shortage of fisherfolk on the water in the immediate vicinity. Counted at least 30 folk trying their luck. M...

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Anyone have any reports on the prawns or any decent landbased spots to fish while I’m at the lakes? Just arrived after seeing a report on FB of decent prawns caught last night near the Apex boat ramp. Went to the tackle store and the young bloke reckons the prawns in the lakes are all small as they’...

Re: rod recommendations for kayak

I would suggest a 6ft rod for kayak fishing. Reason being that anything longer can be a nightmare if you get tip wrap whilst fishing. I recently got a 3ft rod in Asia for my kayak and also been using it on my boat and so far has been great. Mainly use it as a sleeper rod for squid. If you’re casting...

Re: Stacer 469 outlaw

I regularly take my 4m seawasp into Bass strait but ONLY when conditions are favourable. Have added a long range fuel tank and a second bilge pump for peace of mind. As mentioned previously, a 6m+ boat will be better suited for offshore as the weather can easily turn. What boat you choose ultimately...

Re: Anyone based in the south east ??

Am in Blackburn but am happy to take you out in my Seawasp for a snapper trip if you’re not a huge bloke(seawasp is a 4m open boat, so not big).

Am busy till the start the 2nd week of September.

Let me know if you’re keen and don’t get seasick.

Cheers Shaz

Re: Going to Blanket Bay Campground, Fishing alone for the first time

Have never fished Blanket bay but have fished my fair share of spots around Apollo bay. In fact, I’m here now for a few days. If you’re landbased, I’d suggest the beach and rocks at Petticoat creek for mullet, salmon, kgw, snapper. Apollo bay break wall at the harbour for salmon, mullet and kgw. Mar...

Re: Rock Flathead

Have never caught one but heard they’re better than sand, yank and tiger flathead. Think some of the high end restaurants sell rock flathead. If you want to catch them regularly, your best chance is to spear them. Using lures will also increase your chances. Last one I saw caught was at Mornington p...

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakesyear

Cheers for the replies guys! Just got home this afternoon and only checked this thread now as I left my phone in my pocket when I went wading on Wednesday night 😫. Didnt realise for 30 or so minutes by which time it was fried. Ended up prawning at Lake Tyers both nights and did ok, taking about 5 ki...

Re: KGW Gippsland Lakes

Hey guys, been awhile since I’ve been to Gippy, but I’m here for the next few days for prawns and maybe a fish during the afternoon. Have heard that Lake Tyers is the go for prawns with the mouth still closed. Am planning on launching tonight from mills point ramp and heading up the Nowa Nowa arm. W...

Re: Marron? Really?

Caught some last night on the Mornington peninsula. Took me a few trips to work out which areas they are in. Used the open top yabbie nets which fold flat. Bait used was old bacon, fishcake and cooked steamed chicken skin left overs from lunch. Also caught them on mango skins/seeds and old marinara...
