Re: salmon in the surf
I've just been down at Wilsons Prom for a few days - I picked up a 52cm and 40cm salmon and a 40cm flathead landbased towards the entrance at Shallow Inlet. Not a lot else going on as far as the local beaches go, as far as I could tell. I tried Squeaky Beach and Picnic Bay - beautiful, but only a co...

Re: Sunday Arvo In The Surf
What a place! That's the smallest flathead I've ever seen, but there are usually pretty decent sized salmon and tailor around, amongst other things. The number of times I've almost been spooled (or actually spooled) on that beach ...

Re: Murray Cod getting fat on mice!
Yes, not good. Hopefully this will help to inform the government's response to this issue.

Murray Cod getting fat on mice!
Well this is a surprising development in the mouse plague. The broader issues around rodent poisons are worth considering, however: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jun/03/you-can-see-the-tails-bloated-cod-regurgitate-mice-amid-australian-mouse-plague?CMP=fb_gu&utm_medium=Social&utm_sour...

Re: Docklands Pinkies, Salmon & Bream
Yes, live mullet, although plain old pillie works too. I saw the kingfish one night too - I threw some lures at them, but no luck.

Re: Docklands Pinkies, Salmon & Bream
The 60cm snapper was around August last year I think? The big 80cm+ fish my brother and I caught were a few years ago now. But the thing about that whole area is it can be unpredictable when and where the fish will turn up. My list of species landed from the area over the years is: bream (largest at...

Re: Docklands Pinkies, Salmon & Bream
I landed a 60cm fish in Docklands last year, and I've caught them to 84cm in the past. Around structure, you won't land one on 8lb leader, though!

Re: Landbased snapper - short lockdown session
Thanks everyone. Just standard old pilchard I had in the freezer for these. It was great to catch some honest fish after my recent encounter with the huge "stingray" a few days ago in the same general vicinity.

Landbased snapper - short lockdown session
I headed out for my 2 hours of approved exercise within 5km of home the other night. I was chasing mulloway up river as usual, but picked up a trio of really nice pinkies - 31cm, 47cm and 53cm. The 47cm fish was a very light sandy colour, while the larger fish was bright red straight out of the wate...
