Awesome catch mate - I went out to a local spot about the same time as you and all I caught was sunburn and spent my day feeding the fish. Great work, I bet the BBQ was smokin'.

Hi guys, We used to salt our pillys and other bait (esp bonito) for land based and other fishing in NZ. Works really well, and as said before will last for months. The method we used was to layer the bait in a bucket, a paint pail with tight lid was best, with liberal hands full of salt between each...

Thanks for the worthwhile replies. Sounds like the Lagoon will not be a go for me then this weekend. Are there any other good spots around Geelong for a ferw hours of land based fun?
