Re: Squid soft plastics
I've used the smaller ones (1.5? 2 inch? I don't recall) put out by Keitech. They have a couple of squid-shaped offerings in their range, actually. I found pinkies went for them ... but sometimes, especially on warm summer evenings just as it goes dark, pinkies will smash *anything*. So I don't know...

Re: Flathead on Ultra Light Gear
It can be done. I mean, you're at risk of losing a fish due to bad luck, or unfriendly structure ... but it can be done. The pinkies are more likely to give you trouble than the flathead, but even then you should be okay so long as they don't beeline for pylons or etc before you can turn them around.

Re: Taking and picking up health workers to their place of work during curfew
This is nuts. Called DHHS. As soon as i mentioned I needed info about the curfew rules, I was patched to the COVID hotline. The options were bad but option 4 seemed logical - breach of heatlh officer directive. Call went to the police hotline. Surprise surprise, the person who helped me (name start...

Re: Taking and picking up health workers to their place of work during curfew
I would go to the local police station and try and get some sort of written permission or at least a confirmation about you situation. It's also possible either of their employers -- your daughter's, I guess, given she doesn't drive -- could give you a permit. At the press conference they mentioned...

Re: Sorrento pier trip
Hopefully our local pier is reopened soon. As a spectator, at least, I'm a fan of the design. Midweek -- pre-apocalypse -- it was always my go-to, purely as I was too lazy to travel further afield and it was rare to see it overrun (the recent garfish madness changed that).

Re: fishing zone restrictions
I'm hoping -- really, really hoping -- that people's behaviour doesn't 'force' the government's hand re: banning fishing outright, or even closing certain piers. When the garfish or squid are on the bite people seem to forget themselves, and gather in huge numbers with minimal distancing. If you bri...

Re: Sorrento pier trip
Too late, perhaps, but flick plastics (and jigs, I've heard) in that part where the ferry docks. Current is a *****, though. EDIT If you're in Metro Melb -- and Franghanistan is part of Metro Melb -- you can travel anywhere in Metro Melb to fish. Obviously, a 'hot spot' suburb is a **** idea. And, o...

Re: Success at Carrum!
Nice. I'm too soft and pathetic to go wading beaches at night at the moment -- and I'd be trying to catch flounder on plastics rather than with a pointy stick -- but well done. The Whole Fish book advocates brushing with olive oil and grilling them over coals. He dresses them with a bit of verjuice....
