There's a few schooling through the yarra if you're lucky enough to be in the right place when they swim past.
Been getting a few at newport/williamstown mostly around 25cm and a few bigger ones 40cm-60cm pilchard and chicken when the tides moving seems to work best.

Re: Float fishing rod
The reason you can't cast far with your kmart rods is most likely not because they are short, but because they are most likely heavier built and with a far too thick diameter line and a chunky reel. I would recommend just buying a 2-4kg 7-8 foot rod with a small 2000/2500 size reel probably a shiman...

Re: Please help!! good spot for fishing/camping trip
The murray is always good, around cobram i find a good spot for fishing. Lots of small cod and a chance at some bigger ones and some yellas/silvers.
its only a 2.5hour drive as well and don't really need a 4b just take your time on the tracks and you'll probably have to backtrack a bit haha.

Re: Warmies - Sunday 2nd August
I wouldn't bother trying that area for a month and a bit. Although this time of year it's possible catch it's just really slow, like everywhere really. Best baits fresh filets of salmon/trevs/mackrel, comming in tide/sunset is best i find. Also I've had all my luck casting as far as possible into th...

Re: St. Helens Rocks
Thought I'd just add onto this post instead of making a new one.
Went down to St. Helens tonight from 6:30-9pm got small bites all night and caught 1 20cm flathead, my guess is that's what was biting the whole time but even smaller ones than the one caught!
Bait was Silver Trev fillets.

Re: Fishing hacks
I thought this thread was going to be fishing hacks to catch fish I'll throw in some anyway. I dive some spots I like to fish to find out what kinds of fish(if any) are in the area and the structure around then target them with this info, got a few whiting and snapper spots this way! For mulloway fi...
Re: ID HELP

Also same opinion on spearing unidentified fish, seen 1 protected species in my life, super rare encounter and diving in Perth. Missed so many fish because i always try to I.D them first t...
