Re: Hook size for Whiting

Thanks Denis, I'm a passive fisho with bait (ie bait rod is secondary while I flick SP's) so suicides are the go - might just stick with the 1/0 KL, think they'll even be large enough for pinkies and flatties as by-catch. I’ve hooked up to 3x 4-4.5kg snapper at once with KL 1/0 hooks and landed all...

Re: Starting with snappers...any tips

I assume this is a 7” 4-8kg rod and a 4000 reel? This is fine for fishing PPB in a boat, mobo or braid is fine there depending on preference. If you’re fishing WPB I would go heavier as you often have to fish heavy in the channels, braid is a must. For land based I would go a 9” rod personally for b...

Re: 2023 Snapper Season

I got a 3kg one off Hastings a few weeks ago. I sorta classed it as a winter red though, rather than the first off the 23/24 season.

Re: Sabiki bait rig storage

I quite honestly just use a fresh one every time I go fishing. I find after a salt water session the hooks tend to blunt enough to make it not worthwhile for the little ones in particular. The larger 'slimey slayer' type rigs I cut down to only have 2 flashers then tie a flutter jig or a glow metal...

North arm firing on the whiting

Hi all, Long time since I last posted, but I haven’t stopped fishing hahah. Have gone out twice in the last week or two, launched out of Yaringa, and had a bit of a whiting bash. Got 40 between two people the first trip in approx 2.5 hours, and 33 this morning. Had to pack up after approx 1.5 hours ...

Re: Best SS prop for poly 450 frontrunner ?

From what I understand with a SS prop if you hit structure it can potentially damage the internals of the engine, where an ally prop just bends. So its worth bearing that in mind also

Re: COVID & fush stocks

I reckon if you had a few yesrs of lockdown it would make a huge difference, a few weeks/months, wont really have much of an impact, especially over off season. Maybe if the lockdown was november--> feb or something and locked us out of a spawning cycle I could see it.
