Re: Bender's Rapala pattern recommendation!!!!
Jim, in the clear waters of a lot of Victorian, rivers, streams & lakes it is one of the best colours to start off with, it is a top trout lure. Yes, I have caught heaps of trout on that colour in the 3cm & 5cm Rapala minnow sizes. I would highly recommend this colour for beginners, or someone who m...

Re: Golden Perch in Yarra?
Caught a small golden perch years ago in the Warrandyte area, thought it was a macca at the start, but a closer look revealed a true golden. I have caught both species, and it was definitely a yella. Spoke to a fella who was targeting yellas at the mouth of Diamond Creek, as his mate had caught a hu...

Re: catching drummer/luderick?? in vic?
G'day KC Brick I have caught juvenile black drummer at Mallacoutta but that's not really local, but I recall reading somwhere that drummer can be found east of Wilson's Prom, but not to the west. When I was younger, before Point Roadnight rocks at Anglesea became silted up with sand, we used to catc...

Re: Maribyrnong Report
G'day Young Chef If you decide to fish with bait for bream, reduce your line size to 4 or 6 pound line and get a lighter rod. Use small thin hooks, I prefer size 6 to 8, on an unweighted line with a whole scrubworm for bait. Normal compost worms, night crawlers and flat tails work great too, but not...

Re: Peterborough Rock Fishing
In my youth I recall fishing off the overhanging cliffs behind the golf course, Didn't have the right gear, just played daredevil on the terribly dangerous sandy cliff sandy overhangs. Caught a heap of wrasse and a good bag of banded sweep, great fighters and a lot of fun, though winching them up th...

Re: Yellow sacs inside gills? Anyone?
G'day Leftcoaster, I recall catching a large rock flathead in Port Phillip Bay, it's gills too were covered in the orange/yellow globules. Sadly I didn't discover them till I was cleaning the fish, otherwise I would have released it. Tried searching through text books and on the net for Flathead par...

Re: the warmies picking up
G'day ausfishing, Nice catch! Hey, I have seen zebrafish cruise up and down the rock walls at the Warmies / Hotties, wasn't too sure if you meant the stripes were horizontal, or vertical? If, it was a zebrafish, they eat prawns and worms, even garden worms, and are great fighters, dirty fighters at ...

Re: pinkies at the nong
Great work Hot Tuna, and nice fish. It's good to hear that the pinkies still come upstream in summer, mates used to catch a few on prawns in the vicinity of the Anglers Tavern, but they would be hit and miss. I myself haven't caught any, as I was always too busy catching bream on scrubworms. Weirdes...
