Re: New to fishing...have a question?

Many thanks Dougie, I hadn't considered the mechanics but of course, you're right. It was just a general question though I do have fish envy of that 42cm KGW :-) I only use a swivel for attaching the leader to the braid just out of convenience because my eyesight isn't what it was. i too fish east ...

Re: Tench!

Tench are bottom feeders so the vital aspect is depth. We used to catch them on a variety of baits with my favourite being hemp. Maggots, corn, worms, etc would be just as good. IMHO they're a beautiful olive colour but they don't fight as well as a common carp.

Re: New to fishing...have a question?

Part Timer, I'm in the same position as you - what I have observed being land based is that, as the two previous experts have pointed out, the change of tide offers a great opportunity. I've tried to gain experience in one location, so my tip would be find yourself a known spot, close to you to save...

Re: New to fishing...have a question?

wrt taking sea water - I do it from Venus Bay as I'm trying to make my own salt crystals without applying heat (a science experiment for jnr). My dumb question: I'm new to salt water fishing, what's the difference/benefit of paternoster v running sinker? As I see it the bait will lie slightly off th...

Re: A very colourful Inverloch Beach

It fought well for it's size CC, about the same size as my 11s, better than a common.

I'm thinking of doing TNA or Caribbean Gardens for a change on Wed morning, fancy it?

A very colourful Inverloch Beach

Hit the beach on Friday afternoon around low water for an hour. First cast landed a grass whiting, a first for me. Half an hour later I had another first, the most beautifully coloured fish I've seen, a Leather Jacket. Both returned safely. By my reckoning these make it about 10 different species I'...

Re: Cornacarpio's Cumulative Carp Culling Caper

CC, hoping to hit TNA on Tue am and if past performance is anything to go by our English friend should be there too, watching me dispatching :-)

FYI I caught a grass whiting and a Leather Jacket from Inverloch beach on Friday, the LJ was one of the most beautifully coloured fish I've caught.

I'm back in Inverloch this week but Jnr goes back to school next week. I need to fish to keep my sanity in Melbourne. Tue to Fri morns, other business permitting.

Re: Fly fishing help and a small Mildura report..

If you can still lay your hands on one of these... http://flyforums.proboards.com/thread/6435/daiwa-whisker-trout-rods" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and a cheap reel, it only holds the line. I'd match it with an 8 wf floating line, I like Lee Wulf but Cortland do an acceptable line....
