depends where you are but in victoria i wouldn't pay more than $150 for reef fishing

leverage is the wrong word choice, i mean you need the extra length to help control the fish and guide him away from the rock ledge.

For landbased you should be looking at a 12 foot rod, it gives you the extra leverage you need whilst fighting a kingy of the rocks, you can go for a 9 foot 6-8 for throwing metals around but i prefer the 12 foot from the rocks.
