Re: Algae blooms

Fines seems a bit exsessive If it was up to me anyone transporting and releasing a noxious fish into a water in which they do not already exist would receive a mandatory goal term. That is precisely how we got into the environmental disaster we have with carp which even with millions of dollars we ...

Re: Weirdest bait to catch a cod

The old timers used things such as parrots and centipedes. Apart from bardie grubs and yabbies the most popular baits were a carp (goldfish), slipperies (blackfish) and the dressed marrow out of a bullock. Time and time again I have been told the marrow was the best bait. I suppose it has the look o...

Eildon Area Trout

Hi Everyone On Monday I thought I would head out to the Goulburn near Thornton to brush up on my fly fishing skills. Unfortunately, the Goulburn was in a pretty muddy condition: Goulburn Yuck.jpg Coming home today I noticed the river was higher and clearer so it looks like they are releasing water f...

This is the Melbourne area so far:

With the system moving south and 'winding up' these totals will increase a fair bit tonight.

Dave, coming home from work the creeks are all flooded and the channels are the colour of a cappuchino!

Here is the forecast from Thursday with total rainfall out to December 6: rain forecast.png The area immediately east of Melbourne was predicted to exceed 100 mm by next Wednesday. Some areas have already come close to that. The rainfall record for Cairns in one day is 247.2mm on February 8 2015 - I...

Re: Weather

100 mm is a pretty big rain event by Victorian standards. 200 mm in 24 hrs is rare. The original modelling 48 hours out forecast about 250 mm over 3 days centred roughly on Mount Hotham. They were out by about 100 km too far east, with the wettest area being near Strathbogie which has had nearly 200...

Re: Weather

Not overhyped around here.

In the last 24 hours Goulburn Weir and Murchison well over 100 mm. In the Strathbogie/Mansfield area falls of near 200 mm, some roads closed, some people's houses getting flooded. :( :(

Best Wishes

Re: Worth targeting Redfin at night?

Hi Aussie The simple answer is no. In general it is understood that redfin usually don't feed after dark, which is quite unusual for a predatory fish. Perhaps it has something to do with the predators they evolved with in the UK. Redfin feed aggressively in dim light, but once it is pitch dark they ...
