Ballarat LB Saltwater Fishos

Gday. I thought I'd try a thread here before resorting to a Facebook page or whatever. I am a land based fisho (got a few years of working ahead of me before I can get my hands on a boat). I fish jetties and estuaries a bit, but my bread and butter is long rod fishing: surf/beach and rock. I don't h...

Re: Head Lamp

I use a Led Lenser that was about $150 from a hunting store (after having also gone through my share of lamps). I don't know how many lumens, but it can be either a wide beam or a focussed spot and it has does an amazing job over 24 months in unforgiving and wet conditions. It runs on 4 AAs and chew...

Re: Purchasing a Surf Rod

This guy is high level. Im gona search your posts and read every single one of them. I haven't caught a decent fish in ages haha... I'm mostly an armchair/keyboard warrior at the moment. I didn't even own a digital camera etc when I was living in WA so I haven't really got any evidence that I can c...

Re: Purchasing a Surf Rod

Hey Steve, surf fishing can be a very personal thing...people have their own set ups and will swear by them. One thing I would say about fishing gear is the same about any activity that requires tools: anything that is "general purpose" means it is a compromise. If you want a surf set up, then get a...

Re: Barwon river

Thanks! One of the reasons I used to prefer the bridge was for bigger baits and lives under a float to avoid tangled rigs and excess big flat bastards.

Re: Barwon river

What did you used to get from the bridge? Salmon, occasional squid at slack high water, unwanted flat bastards of various shapes/species, mullet, the odd trevally, mate got an elephant one time. Hooked and lost two jews, landed a smallish 7gill in my jew hunt. I've still not landed a jew in Vic. I'...

Re: Barwon river

I love fishing the Barwon, a lot of anticipation and the occasional great session. Does anyone know if you are allowed to fish from the pedestrian bridge? I used to fish the bridge a lot in the winter months many years ago.
