Yep. Been using a 3 section gaff with fixed and 2 flying head attachments for over 10 years now. No problems at all.

Re: casting
Big Gav has a great point though, long rods come with a certain discipline in learning how to cast properly for both distance and accuracy. I'd rather fish the beach with a 9ft rod and great technique than be like my mate (with a chronic case of one-upmanship) used to do with his 14ft rod that he co...

Re: Perth surf rod advice needed
Cheers - I was hoping for some magic bullet over there haha! I know I can get decent stuff from BCF for cheap if need be, but I'm not bad at haggling at cashies if need be. I don't have the money for combos, and I love my reels so that was my thinking there. Thanks again.

Perth surf rod advice needed
Gday, due to the ridiculous price of luggage/baggage, I am headed over to WA for a few weeks soon and will only take my reels (well, I'll take a few clothes probably also). The plan is to pick up some rods in Cash Converters while I'm there and leave them over there at my rello's place. Simple quest...

Re: Determining the 'action' of a rod.
Unless I'm buying something that is cheap and cheerful as a back up or whatever, I never buy a rod without putting some line through the guides and seeing how it arcs. You get some perplexed looks from some of the less interested BCF staff etc, but f*ck 'em - it's my money and I want to know how the...

Re: braid vs mono- surf fishing
Braid/gelspun. Unless you are casting with an overhead reel (although plenty do this successfully at night into a stiff onshore breeze with waves crashing around the knees of your waders - I'm not one of them), then all of the drawbacks from braid are easily overcome. Been fishing the surf (and ever...

Re: Healthy stingray population Ricketts point
Stingrays serve a purpose like everything else in nature. Like most elasmobranches they are relatively slow to reproduce... if the flat ones aren't harvested by amateurs or exploited by commericals then there are going to be more of them around than the other varieties... edit: also it can sometimes...
