Re: Disappointing
fishing mags, like many mags I suppose (same with 4wd mags especially) tend to have a cyclical rotation of articles. I used to buy several fishing mags regularly when I first got into fishing seriously as an adult, and within 9-12 months I reckon I had read basically the same articles at least twice...

Re: beginner budget surf rod set up
Sorry - I was saying (in a long winded way) that in my opinion $50 will get a great surf rod (so by implication $30 - $40 will still get a good one)…if he already has a good reel (which he seems to - two of them), then all is sweet. I reckon most 'budget' surf rods are really pretty good, rods that ...

Re: beginner budget surf rod set up
My 2c to an already very informative thread - spend good money on good reels, spend basic money on a basic rod. I recently spent $50 on a 13"6' wilson rod that is bloody magnificent. The guides are only average quality (but 'average' now is pretty much 'shit-ho't compared to 10 or so years ago IMHO)...

Re: Catching Sharks Landbased
Re: the feeding 'zones' (bear in mind I'm still talking land based here)…this is only anecdotal, my personal experiences, but I've caught a number of whaler species (only bronzies in Vic, others in other states) from baits on the bottom, and I've caught 7gills under a float only 1.5m from the surfac...

Re: FREE SHIPPING AND 20% OFF ALL DAY EVERY DAY
Cheers. I have made rough home-made reusable things like this in the past, but these seem a million times more useable (mine were only good from a jetty or boat, whereas something streamlined should still cast well from the surf and have a slower dispersal rate than my things). As you say, it would ...

Re: St Helens Spit Beware!!!
As the other party who WATCHED the pinkies get caught (and caught nothing himself), I can say it was pretty scary when we realised what was happening re - the golf balls…they bolted off as soon as they saw that we had jumped in the car and started it. Otherwise it was a lovely night and szero25 clea...

Re: Gday
Thanks for the welcome and well-wishes. How was the fishing in wa and sa? Magnificent. SA from around Robe onwards (North/NW) was brilliant. Surf fishos have to get into the beaches from Kingston up to the Coorong. WA was different again - lots of new species, and once around the corner of Cape Natu...

Gday
Hi everyone, I've been out of fishing for a few years. I got into all-grain brewing and growing my own hops instead. I was mad keen on Vic surf fishing 10 years ago, then went to WA and SA for a while and upon my return I became disparaged at the amount of time and patience it took to catch a good l...
