Everytime i've successfully hooked a fish on a circle the rod has been in rod holder and the fish has hooked itself. I tried the lifting the rod tip up gently thing and found I was just pulling the bait out of the mouth, just chill a bit, watch the rod tip, first nibble second nibble then when it be...

I've got a 42g version of these. The hook is in my opinion a touch oversized but they cast beautifully and swim well at low or high speeds.
