I have 2 flathead marks on westenport and they are good spots and can pick up 20 ot 30 each time. I dont fish for fladhead often down here cos i get much bigger fillets at bermagui so only try down here if i runnout of my 20 to 30kg hauls from bermagui. Unfortunately occasionally there will be unexpected by-catch that you may not be able to land. My view is you will have more success chasing specific species and applying techniques and using the correct tackle to be successful for those species. My advice to you would be to go to a tackle shop near where your going to take the young fella get them to show you a few rigs, tips, techniques and best times be a sponge absorb that info then implement it.
