Re: TREES FOR FISH EVENT Maribyrnong River Monday 20 May, 2019

Regardless of the presentation, this is an absolutely brilliant idea. It should be policy along the Yarra, too - no trees, no cod (and down lower, no snags, no estuary perch either). This will benefit many species both in the fresh and saltwater sections of the river.

Re: Somewhere down an urban river

Awesome result - well done! I still remember the first time I went out to deliberately target mulloway - they are such a challenge, but the rewards are just as great.

Re: 3.9 mako kayak

For a moment, I thought this post was about catching a 3.9m mako shark from a kayak ... which, come to think of it, would be a very, very bad idea.

Re: Are fish toxic ??

Probably. But the amounts of chemical load we are talking about are tiny, so it's like describing the difference between getting an electric shock of say 1ma and 0.5ma (i.e. neither are dangerous, nor could you detect much difference - https://www.sparkfun.com/news/1385). Keep in mind, though, that ...

Re: Fishing orbost advice

The jetty is excellent - better if you bring some live prawns, but plenty of big bream, mullet and perch hang out around the pylons at the turn of the tide, and flathead directly out in front.

Lost something massive this afternoon

I spent my 2 hours of exercise on the mulloway hunt this afternoon (in my usual haunt on the Yarra). I had caught 2 pinkies around 35cm and was running down the clock in my last half hour, when one of my rods received some light bites. Once there was a small bend in the rod tip, I leaned back on the...

Re: Lost something massive this afternoon

No, just a single 3/0 circle hook. I've caught plenty of mulloway before - if this was one, it must have been over 20kg. Whenever I've caught them previously, though, they absolutely scream away - this was a slow and powerful run on heavy drag. Honestly, it felt more like a large stingray - but that...

Landbased snapper - short lockdown session

I headed out for my 2 hours of approved exercise within 5km of home the other night. I was chasing mulloway up river as usual, but picked up a trio of really nice pinkies - 31cm, 47cm and 53cm. The 47cm fish was a very light sandy colour, while the larger fish was bright red straight out of the wate...

Re: Landbased snapper - short lockdown session

Thanks everyone. Just standard old pilchard I had in the freezer for these. It was great to catch some honest fish after my recent encounter with the huge "stingray" a few days ago in the same general vicinity.
