"Big Redfin" challenge

G'day folks, To some, this time of year is re-knowned for chasing trophy-sized redfin. I'm referring to the big ol' girls that push over that magical 50cm/2kg mark. Some waterways can produce this quality, others cannot - for various reasons such as over-population, lack of food, bad genetics, etc.....

Re: Lake dartmouth trout.

1-3kg or 2-4kg outfits are fine mate.
Winged lures such as tassies, stingers, cobras, work far too well to dismiss. Bibbed minnows are also good to have in the spread. Rapalas such as F7-F13, or XR6-XR10. Or daiwa double-clutch. And a troll speed of 3-3.5km/hr should do the trick. Good luck!

Re: Do we over fish the snapper?

Are you guys talking about pinkies or snapper? I find snapper season a struggle every year....the amount of boat traffic on the bays is crazy & more often than not I come home with nothing. Things have got better, but I wouldnt say things are great We had a few great seasons, then things seem to ha...

Re: Diver killed by speeding boat

As far as I am aware there is not any laws that prohibits a boat operater from being within 100m of a diver down flag, the law reads that the boat operater must travel no faster than 5knt within 100m of any diver down flag. In other words just use common sense, avoid divers if possible and If you m...

Re: Trout lures/flies discussion

I'm not much of a fly fisho, but often use them in conjunction with lures when on the troll, flatlining and downrigging. I'd go as far as to say that I've had just as many strikes on the flies, so it is worth doing. Lure choice is an interesting topic. There are two types of strikes. An aggressive s...

Re: Trout lures/flies discussion

…………………………………………………………………………………….. An aggressive strike can come from a territorial fish at any time of year that simply hits something because it is in "their" space, or during spawning time specifically in lakes/impoundments when the fish get frustrated because they are unable to spawn. This is w...

Re: Changing Baits

Not really, I just go with gut feeling. When fishing for a gummy, my gut feeling is put a new salmon fillet on every 20 minutes....but would I be better off leaving an old washed out bait down there so I don't break the scent trail? If you've got the bait, go with your gut mate and turn them over. ...

Re: Changing Baits

Do any of you guys use lumo squid skirts when fishing at night time You have impeccable timing Gultchy I bought a pack of lumo squid skirts a couple of years back when another Snapper fisho told me he uses those instead of lumo beads on his Snapper rigs. I read you post yesterday as I was finalisin...

Re: Geelong

Gars n red fish Red fish as in goatfish? There's a reason Bowl posted this under "snapper fishing" champ ;) Corio inner used to be re-knowned for its winter run of reds. There have been some monsters caught in time gone by, by those keen to brave the cold icey winter nights. I have heard that they ...

Anyone had a crack yet? I've got the tinny hooked up to hit it in the morn. Should be a good day.
