Re: Need help catching whitings! Land based!
I was fishing off flinders pier a few years back, using pipi, squid, whitebait...and both myself and friend, got nothing, watching the buggers swim by, yet no bites, not even a look see... and half way back down the pier when walking back, we came across these 3 old greek guys with hand lines... and a damn bucket full of sand whiting.
both myself and friend were like.. @!#$%!%$@$!$@!.. and then we saw their bait.... ruddy everyday dug from the Garden Earth Worms.
of which next week I will be digging me some earth worms.. and bunging some of them on a hook with a strip of squid, pipi etc...oh and I am going to rub the buggers too...in this fine fish food I have plenty of that came free with a live fish shipment for my aquarium.
I'm guessing its not exactly the bait they used, but the fact it wriggled..
go figure

same here mate.. I'm located in the south eastern suburbs and was wondering if anyone could help me out as to where a great whiting spot is? I've snapped a few down in blairgowrie back beach but this spot can only has access during low tide. I have also been browsing the net for locations and sorrento seems to be the way but I'm yet to catch there... any ideas?

Mishachief just curious on those whiting you saw, I have seen plenty of people catch grass whiting on earthworms off Flinders pier, but this is the first time I have ever heard of anybody catching sand whiting from there, just wondering if it would be worth while to try for some to get some fresh snapper bait?

I reckon they would prolly be grassies, a common catch down there, great looking fish though IMOwidgeon58 wrote:Mishachief just curious on those whiting you saw, I have seen plenty of people catch grass whiting on earthworms off Flinders pier, but this is the first time I have ever heard of anybody catching sand whiting from there, just wondering if it would be worth while to try for some to get some fresh snapper bait?
