PPB whiting

Post by DIAMODEAN » Fri Mar 09, 2018 11:51 am

Hey everyone
Was fishing altona for pinkie last week and a monster whiting jumped on the hook going 45cm, forgot how good it was haven't fished for whiting in about 10 years !
Heading out in the morning wanting to stay around altona, point cook, Werribee area...
Is there any areas, depths, times, tides I should be focusing on ? Or should I just get out there find some sand and some weed and throw a line in ?
Any help or advice would be appreciated thanks in advance !!!

There has the odd Ting caught behind the Willi footy ground and surrounds, they r hard to get but the fish caught are very good size.

I have not had much luck around Altona lately.

Do you fish whiting with a bait hook and pippies or worms with a sliding sinker? Would a pilchard on a single circle with a sliding sinker work for whiting? Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. Got the jig. Pretty expensive for a little things like that. Tried today with small pieces of squid on the black magic hook while drifting with burley pot. but no whiting. Maybe im at the wrong place. And I did Not hv Tuna oil. Will try and get some oil and try soon.

You will have more success if you anchor up rather than drifting. Find a spot in 3 to 6 metres of water with sand and some weed patches and burley up. If you don't get a bite after 20 to 30 minutes shift, even if it is only 100mm away. Keep doing this you will find them sooner or later.

Up at the top of the bay little pinkies will be raping your baits and driving you nuts at the moment.

Around point cook/RAAF is often a decent whiting spot.
