Whiting in the Full moon?

Post by Matthew drako » Thu Dec 20, 2018 9:31 am

Hey guys, heading out on either Sunday or Monday to chase some kgw and squid off of wedge spit and point wilson but was just wondering whether the full moon disadvantages whiting? I haven’t had any problem catching squid on the full moon but I can’t recall a full moon fishing for whiting. Thanks all

Read somewhere that whiting around full moon better in dark but not sure if thats correct
People also say that snapper shut down on an easterly but we have had some great snapper(not pinkies) sessions close in off blackrock on an easterly so if i was going fishing it wouldnt stop me

Full moon means slower and smaller tides which means smaller bite periods

For where I fish out from Yaringa. Small tide in the morning, big tide afternoon and evening again.

Try dark in shallow. And pick the bigger tide

I’m with a couple of the others on this one. Usually just fish when I get the opportunity. Can’t wait for everything to line up nicely...

Just to report back, the squid didn’t quite play the game as we only managed 4 in an hour so decided to hit the ting grounds and from what I experienced the full moon meant nothing as we had the hottest bite I’ve ever seen. Caught them From 9-11am and left them biting still very strongly. Mind you, the time we got the fish wasn’t tide change or anything, tide change was 11:30am. If u want a feed of whiting, anywhere between point cook to Geelong is producing plenty. Couldn’t keep up lol. Fished ranged from 28cm-37 so not monsters but nonetheless happy. Were a few undersized which were released. Pippi, mussels and squid strips for bait. Burley pot played a key part in my eyes to keep he fish around as we got stuck into them straight away
