Once again I caught my personal best squid this weekend but forgot to measure him!

Caught at flinders pier within 5 casts of starting. This is by far my favourite squid jig and the only one I've ever caught anything on so I decided to let my girlfriend try it and land her first squid.. and you all know how that goes.
First cast..snagged. Line broke. Gone.
Luckily I have an awesome girlfriend who offered to jump in to find it but I wouldn't let her because it was so cold. She insisted on going back home to grab her wetsuit and snorkel and was so confident that she would find it haha.
She spent about an hour swimming around with a fishing rod pushing the weed around to find my one while I stood on the pier and directed her to where I thought it was. She dived down a bunch of times and grabbed 6 jigs to add to our collection including one hilariously stupid looking 4.0 but no luck on my favourite one :( So many people were watching in awe and confusion as to why there is a girl fishing in the water.. and one of them happened to be one of her high school students hahaha. Looking forward to the stories on monday!

Some nice pics here...and nice retrieval efforts! :) You are obviously impressed with the squid gaff mazman! Is the squid gaff of a fixed length or can you just add handles?
cheers

It's telescopic but to open it you just push your hand forward and stop in one movement and it just slides out to full length. It helped that the guy using it clearly had a bit of experience. Just wishing I asked what model he was using.

Cheers Alex

I have a cheap gaff Alex. Worth its weight in gold for high piers. Landed a 40cm hood off the end at portsea no dramas.

Out of interest where were you fishing at portsea? There's a few spots that are good and a few that aren't.

Chasing Fish all morning on monday, and finallly changed up and chased squids for over 2 hours not 1 person got 1 touch, then i thought i hit a snag as i left the jig free floating for ages , proceeded to reel it in to only feel a massive pull. Took my Yamashita Red Head ;)
was stoked about the squid and afew more little ones followed after , this was the biggest.

Caught this one on a whiting at Cleeland Bight yesterday. I thought the prong had got snagged again and just ignored it to focus on working a squid jig, but when I bought the bait in the clean the weed off it I felt something moving on the end of the line. A very gentle retrieve (because I wasn't sure how well hooked it was) saw my first squid in the yak where it proceed to redecorate. I got one more for the day on a gold yama.
