The BOM forecasts for areas. These are quite large. If there is strong wind in any part of the area they have to put a warning out. To get a better idea of your local area they have the METEYE feature. It is usually quite accurate. Zoom in to your area and then you can look at wind in 3hrs segments. I make my living out on the water and this is what we use all the time.

You see these a lot Muzza43,
here is why: (I am a radar and tech, well marine electronics) by trade.
When there is the right atmospheric conditions, usually a temperature inversion, then the signal from other radars bounce of the layer in the atmosphere and travel over the horizon, sometimes they will bounce of a mountain or other object as well. So when it arrives at the next radar it produces a series of signals rough in the direction of the other radar.
The software in weather radar is setup to remove echoes that are not moving so land is not seen. As the signal from the other radar is constantly arriving at a slightly different time, it appears to be moving. The same effect is sometimes caused by shipping. They are a large moving target and the software cannot remove it. In that case you will see what looks like a small thunderstorm out at sea or a series of them in a shipping lane.

Triggerbrothers.com.au is the one you are after or you can just go to baywx.com.au for real time wind update and also great for forecasts.
