but recently a tackle shop said i can put 60lb on it... is this wise??

he said its relative to the drag pressure of the reel, not the rods line capacity. so if reel has 15lb of drag pressure max, then it doesnt matter what strength line..
but i still dont feel comfortable accepting this theory.... for one thing if you get spooled, you no longer have any drag pressure.. your then on full line strength... so snap! goes the rod??

should i stick to my way of doing things.. or go to a 30lb line for the 30lb rod... cant seem to find anything 26/27 anyway yet.
I have 8lb on a 6lb rod, it hasn't snapped yet.

i've had 30lb mono on a 12kg rod and i snapped it on a snapper, although it was a cheap rod, all depends.
Also depends on the drag of the reel.
If ou have a 10lb rod with 20lb line and 15kg of drag then the weakest point will be found.
However most breaks are caused by high sticking (lifting the rod too high causing too much bend) graphite rods or small dents/damage caused when travelling giving the rod a weakend point.

Also most braid will break at close to double the rated breaking point.

yeah.. im getting rid of the braid i just bought... 1/ the rods i got it for.. are in great condition still after 20years.. but i dont know if the eyelets can handle the braid... and 2/ i got bad eyes, so i see the mono a lot easier to tie, and where its laying to water.

and i guess really with rods/line/reels breaking strain point.. is always when the frustration and patience of the fisher runs out.

i think i will play safe and just get 25/27 mono.. might even goto bunnings and get some fine timbers and make wooden rod cases for something to do too..

thanks
