The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad

Re: Fortnightly Meet Ups
Watch the rod bend over and strike and let the fight begin. When they are close to the beach keep the line tight and walk backwards till they are landed.CarlG wrote:Stop once they tap a few times..poodoo wrote:And wind the reel fast.....DougieK wrote:Cast at the water>?skuxliss wrote: watching the pro's work the magic and copy and paste their style

Re: Fortnightly Meet Ups
Casting, lure fishing, winding the reel, angle of the rod when winding.... I never knew any of that, and found out it's about keeping the lure in the water on top of the water upon retrieval haha I never knew any of this stuff till I watched the fella's at Gunna's and copied what they did, next minute I'm catching something haha

Re: Fortnightly Meet Ups
Thats not how you fish Gunnamatta. Here's how it's done:
Start with your favourite lure, generally the most expensive one you have. On the first cast wind it in until your lure is at the waters edge - when it is getting washed onto the sand, let your braid go slack and flick the rod a couple of times in a circular motion. If you do this correctly you should have a couple of nice knots in the line about a foot from the end of the rod. Ignore these and wind in the rest of the way.
Second cast - cast it as far as you can. Shield your eyes with your hand and stand there like a golfer proudly admiring his shot, watching your lure soar off into the distance while the braid wraps itself intractably around parts of the reel you didn't even know existed. At this point you can let out a couple of expletives - but not too many, you'll need them for later.
Now you walk back 20 metres to a dry patch of sand and sit down to start untangling your braid. When a freak wave hits you, get up and move back another 20 metres. Sit down again to untangle your line.
About now you will notice that the wave which wet your ass also filled your reel with sand, and your whole session is now f%#$ed. At the same time you will hear a lot of yelling and whooping from other fishermen on the beach, who have simultaneously connected with salmon. Let out a few more expletives, and start the trudge back to the carpark.
Grit your teeth and smile politely at the ever so friendly bait fishos by the stairs asking if you caught anything. As you climb the stairs, turn and place a curse on the whole beach and every bastard on it, wishing upon them all a month of brisk southwesterly winds.
