Callouses last a long time and come pretty easily. Sore hands for a couple of days never killed anyone

Finger guards
I have reasonably hard hands from years of gym, never wear gloves working outside, labourer in a previous life, and I used to always put on a band aid cos I would slice my fingers up to the point it put me off surf spinning. What I discovered after a few questions on here was that I didn't have my drag tight enough while casting causing it to slip and slice my finger. Since I tightened my drag I haven't had a problem. Maybe this is partly what is causing the division?

Locking the drag is definitely helps, but it is a pain in the rear, when casting slugs.
The other thing to take into consideration, is wet hands. Wet hand makes your skin soft, wether you have tradie tough hands or not.

Re: Finger guards
Use a mono shock leader when casting leads, 40 lb for a 4oz weight. You will not have any problem with cut fingers then as its much thicker than braid. Its great off the rocks as well as a 5m leader gives allows you to put the pressure on when its close to the shore.
Cast, catch and put it back

I use one of these...work a treat on my delicate little hands and protects my manicure.
Missus thought It was some sort of weird midget thong when she saw it though!
