If you don't have the hands of a tradie, you will more than likely find when casting big sinkers and baits that the line will either cut your finger or hurt your hand.

This is not an issue for people who cast light weights and lures, but start to head up to 3 ozs or more, then it can become an issue.

There are three ways around this, become a trade, use the method where the line is wrapped around the rod near the spool, or wear a finger guard of some description.

This finger guard was purchased from a tackle store, the down side is that it makes the line difficult to feel.

This finger guard again was purchased from the chemist and is available in all good super markets. A roll of Leucoplast. I like using this as I can feel the line much better than the previous two finger guards.

Just have a couple of wraps around your spool of your leader line no more cuts.

But in all seriousness, A couple of the surf spin guys who fish quite a bit used to use these and were finding they were causing abrasions and casting bust offs when using low weight braids. Probably a non issue if you're fishing heavy lines and not casting 400+ times a day.

^ mish a lot of the spin guys dont' use shock leaders cos repeatedly casting a knot through guides messes with the strength.

I always just used a bandaid ;)cheers

When I am spinning I do not use any finger guards now, and I am casting lures up to 60 grams. I might use a guard if I am going to go heavier than that. but for surf bait fishing with a surf rod, using 3ox plus sinkers, I will use a finger guard.

i use one of these when surf spinning works a treat. Used to use band aids but they would slip and or cut into the braid :down: The glove has no issues like that
