VRFish to Re-Build the Long Pier at Port Welshpool
Just saw on Twitter VRFish linked to Jaala Pulford that they are going to be re-building the long pier at Port Welshpool! WOOHOO! I know I for one will make it a regular holiday destination to give it a crack off the pier!
I'll try and find a link to the media release

The coalition promised this a few weeks ago and the Labor party matched the promise today.
Great news for the town and fisho's in general.

Nice one! I've heard kingfish are pretty common along the pier there

Re: VRFish to Re-Build the Long Pier at Port Welshpool
STOP THE PRESS: Bi-partisan support to restore Long Jetty a win for fishers!
VRFish welcomes the announcement by the Labor Candidate for McMillan, Chris Buckingham. The Labor Party has now joined the Coalition in co-funding the full restoration of Port Welshpool’s iconic Long Jetty.
Constructed in the late 1930s and at over 900 metres in length Port Welshpool’s Long Jetty is the longest timber jetty in Victoria. A fire in June 2003 partially destroyed the historic structure and it was closed due to safety concerns.
VRFish stepped up its campaign this year, and both major parties have now responded positively by committing the balance of $4.8 million needed to get the job done.
VRFish would like to thank Chris Buckingham for listening to the community and VRFish.
Dallas D’Silva, VRFish General Manager said, “Regardless of the Federal Election outcome, fishers and the community can be sure that the Long Jetty Restoration Project will receive the required funding to complete the full suite of works.
VRFish sincerely thank Jaala Pulford, Minister for Regional Development and her predecessor, Peter Walsh, MP for contributing $5 million from the State Government. We also thank the South Gippsland Shire Council for allocating $1 million towards the project.

Re: VRFish to Re-Build the Long Pier at Port Welshpool
Anyone been to Port Welshpool recently?
Can you actually fish anywhere on the Long Pier or is it completely closed off?
Looking for a quick road trip to take the family soon and have always wanted to visit Port Welshpool...
If it is still closed are there many other land based fishing options?
Cheers

No, you can't get anywhere worth fishing along the pier, not until it's rebuilt anyway.fishingvic wrote:Anyone been to Port Welshpool recently?

Port Albert pier can produce, and plenty of squid around the Welshpool wharf
