advice doing a fishing Trip along coastline towards Bermagui

Post by CremeDeLaCreme » Wed Sep 26, 2012 1:31 pm

In two weeks (early October) me and the missus are planning a road trip up the Victorian coastline from Melbourne towards Bermagui in southern NSW.

We will likely be stopping at Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Merimbula, Eden and Bermagui along the way.

I am after some advise on land based fishing spots we should go to, and what bait, tackle to use?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

I'd suggest calling in at Tathra and throwing a line in off the peir. Been a while since i was there, but it always seemed to fish well.
Also around Chritsmas we used to get a good number of squid. The river at the other end of town was also fairly productive.

if you fish of the rocks at the enterence to bermagui harbour you can get a few salmon if there around
you can have fun with yellowtail and travelly of the too piers that the long liners and netting boats park next too
or if your after flathead, bream and black fish are up the bermagui river

im heading up to bermagui with the boat for the first 2 to 3 weeks october, if you want can give me a call and ill tell you how the harbour is fishing or you can get a charter and get flathead snapper or maybe a tuna or marlin (bit early for marlin) but charter boats know where to go.

I'm pretty keen to head up that way myself!

Can you target Snapper/Kingy's anywhere along the coastline to NSW?

Pretty shore you can from green cape light house
Fishing any where neat Lakes is a dead loss I reckon unless you go chasing bream and Flathead at lake tyres :reel:

I am with Cris. I did a road trip along the coastline from Mel to Sydney around this time last year. Did see people landing biggies off a wharf in Tathra but mind one seal or two stealing your fish.

I think you'll find Mallacoota quite interesting.
Absolutely lovely place with magnificent diverse fishing opportunities.
Everything from tackling some magnificent bream & flatties in the estury & rivers (there's severeal close to 'coota') to beach fishing, offshore, etc.
Something for everyone & every occasion.
If yer particularly after LB action then there's some wonderful beach fishing available from Mallacoots, past Bastion point, & down toward the Croajingalong Nat' park.
I'm planning in the not-too-distant future to hire a houseboat for a weeks stay on the estury.
Can't wait.

Bill.
