Goldfish??

Gday guys, I have heard that there are some wild goldfish in some urban creeks around Melbourne. Has anyone seen any around amd where abouts have you seen them? Cheers guys and Happy New Year!! :-D

I've spotted one out the front of my place but I'm not telling because I want to catch the bugger first lol. He's big for a goldfish. Usually you get them as carp bycatch

Many years ago there was a good population of them in the Plenty river around Greensborough.

Goldfish are more widespread than you may think. They can bob up almost anywhere.

They are more common in urban lakes, specially in and around newer housing estates. Most have got there after well meaning but misinformed people have got tired of keeping them and have released them thinking that they are doing an act of kindness.

If you fish for carp you'll eventually catch a goldfish.

There were heaps at the end of Huntingdale Court, Rowville.
Little pond there, mind you, that was years ago

Years ago some were in Edwards lake reservoir, I caught a couple myself they were large for goldfish they looked like smallish multi-coloured carp and some were gold, I don't know about now.

Saw someone catch a really big one guessing around 40cm at Lilydale lake before. Im just happy ive never caught one before. Wouldn't know what to do with it, can't release it, and i would feel bad killing it...

I have seen plenty over a foot long
