Yep two sides to every story.. when a statement is released from Fisheries we'll have a more precise picture of what happened.
Reporting sources always sensationalise this type of incident without statements from all parties.

I wouldn't of thought a fisheries officer could legally carry a baton & oc spray.I've never seen one with either on them.

In addition, one party calling for witnesses to come forward to verify their version of events it appears that way.azkay wrote:If in fact one party has got broken teeth, smashed face and a wife with that scar on her face after being stomped on, i think its safe to assume that excessive force was used..

I thought that was a strange statement also, I was under the impression if a fisheries officer determines it's going to get ugly they call a policemen in for back up. baton & oc spray doesn't make sense. unless your a law keeper that would be deemed as carrying a weapon ?drew 2 wrote:I wouldn't of thought a fisheries officer could legally carry a baton & oc spray.I've never seen one with either on them.

Re: Fisheries Victoria officer allegedly assaults boaters
I don't know anymore of the story than anyone else but if the guy started kicking or hitting my wife I wouldn't be yelling stop. no matter who it was.
smells very fishy..
like a compo claim or something...
edit... I didn't mean I would want her to keep getting beaten to a pulp..
I meant you wouldn't hide in your car while your wife was getten belted....

They can and they do, very rarely see them use(or with) items though, maybe they leave them in the vehicle a lot, I don't know.drew 2 wrote:I wouldn't of thought a fisheries officer could legally carry a baton & oc spray.I've never seen one with either on them.

The ability to manage confronting situations through negotiation and resolution is an important skill required of Fisheries Officers so training is provided to develop these and other communication skills.Officers are issued with and required to carry and maintain defensive equipment including Oleoresin Capsicum spray, baton and handcuffs. They receive regular ongoing training in the use and safe custody of these items.
Also, lets just remember that this event will be before the courts and it has been previously noted that neither Fisheries or the Police, will comment on the event until it has completed it's investigation or the matter is heard by a court.
There are a few different stories out there.

Fisheries Officer is just a job title many people abuse their workplace role most don't wait and see whether the allegations are proven or not.

None of which you have any chance of remembering the first time someone takes a legit swing at you.Brett wrote:The ability to manage confronting situations through negotiation and resolution is an important skill required of Fisheries Officers so training is provided to develop these and other communication skills.Officers are issued with and required to carry and maintain defensive equipment including Oleoresin Capsicum spray, baton and handcuffs. Fascinated to find out what really happened. Lot's of this seems too convenient.

Smells a bit fishy, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
