Estuary Perch at Karkarook

Post by fishing_minnow » Fri Dec 15, 2017 7:41 pm

Until now, I never knew that there were estuary perch stocked in Karkarook Lake. All I've been catching was Rainbows and Redfin. I found out that the Estuary Perch come on when it's pitch dark and they all start jumping. I was there a couple of days ago with my friend and we were pulling up a reasonable amount of fish. They put up a decent fight on ultralight gear (that FishCador kindly gave me). I tried soft plastics first, but I changed up to the Rapala Floating Minnow in P Perch colour that never lets me down. I should've taken a picture with it but I was too hyped and rushed to get him back into the water. A first quick report made by me.

Tight lines everyone!

Well done mate. That's great effort. .
Were the fish big or are they all still small sizes.

Gave karkarook a go for the EP just on sunset. Missed a few and landed a few on hurricane (rip off) bent minnow. They're still small around the 15 cm mark but it looks good for the future if fisheries keeps stocking it.

What would you say is an excellent lure for targeting small EPs around dusk? I've got an ultralight setup.

Thanks for your comment purple5ive. They are really small but the ones that jump out of the water seem to be bigger around the 20 cm mark.
