MSAR Funding

Post by re-tyred » Mon Dec 18, 2017 4:45 pm

Well remember that declaration by Coast Guard, somewhat lead by Lakes and other Gippsland Flotillas, that we would shut the doors if no funding was forth coming. It was reported in popular press as a threat to 'strike" quite amusing since we are volunteers and were simply pointing out we were not able to raise sufficient money running raffles and sausage sizzles to keep out doors open.
Well here is the result after some more belligerent noises and some negotiations.

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

yeah that was my first thought too, its more of a recreational necessity than an actual emergency sort of, but then again Australia is surrounded by ******* water, you would think its second nature to go the beach and be interested in water activities.
i feel bad every time i see the MSAR volunteers standing in the sun asking for donations near mornington , almost ever summer they are there

Yep exactly. We have the funds to have excellent marine services, excellent boat ramps but the government doesn't see it as a priority, it is all about priorities.
