Q: Spinfisher V owners - best 'all-round' size?

Post by mingle » Fri May 04, 2018 7:30 pm

Hi Fellas,

Simple question:

Which Penn Spinfisher V would be the best 'all-rounder' size? I know that there's really no such thing as an all-round reel for any use, but which would be able to cover most bases?

I'm thinking of the 4500, 5500 or 6500, as I think the 3500 would be too small and the 7, 8, 9 & 10, would be far too big.

Uses would include surf fishing, using a 12ft rod, spinning from the rocks for salmon, etc, also using the 12ft rod.

Other uses would included use from the kayak in deeper water, pulling whatever might be out there, on a 8-12kg 7ft rod.

Possibly also sued for dangling from a jetty.

6500 too big? 4500 not big enough? I also understand that the 5500 is the same body as the 6500 with a smaller spool, Hmm...

Comments and suggestion welcome, as ever.

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi,
I have a 6500 that I use for lure casting (metal slices) and bottom bouncing from my boat, works well, pretty much indestructible, only thing its a bit heavy, I would not like to be casting it on a long rod all day when spinning from the rocks.
Cheers
Ango.

4500 is prob the best of both worlds, even at that size youll be able to tackle big stuff just longer playtime. I think if your gonna be casting off rocks then it will be easier on the arms unless you have popeye arms. Goodluck
