Wondering why the coppers asked him for his licence in the first place?? Me thinks they were trying to book him for anything they could? I assume there would be some signage around the area to indicate no drinking so the guy was just unlucky as most of us would have a can or 2 while relaxing fishing anyway..

Guessing it came down to attitude. Might of been a bit of a smart arse to yhe cops so they booked him for something.

Used to happen to some mates all ghe time. Get pulled over, back chat etc, get booked. I had the most modified car yet I was never booked for anything cause I showed respect.

A while back I was told by fisheries that I couldn't drink on the pier while fishing, I said I had no intention of drinking on the pier but they assumed I was because I had an open slab in my boot. Yes I was car searched fishing off Cunningham pier, however I didn't get any fine but then again I dont think they had any jurisdiction on those grounds unlike police. What I found recently that was an eye opener was that Lorne pier area has a sign that says no sleeping in car while parked in front of the pier. I actually saw fishos getting booked there one night by regular visiting police units. Gotta be kidding me, Understand getting fined for being intoxicated in public areas but fined for sleeping in your car is really crossing it

After careful consideration the fine has been waived (per ninemsn)
I'm a copper, I can book you, now to figure out what to book you for, wrong attitude
Man found to be causing no harm, no action taken, right attitude

Good attitude mate.
Makes all the difference

I got pulled over once for pushing a amber light.
Copper says if you pass the attitude test ill let you off.
I thanked him for letting me.off and just asked a simple question.
I thought it was upto the driver discretion if he can stop safely in time or can safely make it threw befor it turmed red.

He said if you cant stop you can go threw but you should be going at a.speed you could stop at.

I asked
If you apply basic caluclations to it.
If travelling 80 km/h takes about 60mt to stop that equals about 40 seconds.
With amber lights only amber for about 5 to 10 seconds leaves a.big window for discretion.

And if thats the case should all roads.be 40km a.hour to allow for lights to change unexpectedly or have lo ger anber light to allow longer stopping distance

He said in a ideal world yes but try stop next time.
Nice copper. We had a good conversation amd then went on our way.
