there is a few options:

- replace the strap
- replace the winch

Sometimes its easier to just throw it away and buy a new one...replacing the strap can be tough. Whats the rest of the winch condition like, ie rusty, gears wearing out, the pawl (handle locking mechanism) condition etc

however with those options...there are more options...

single vs multi speed winch
cable vs strap vs rope winch

Dont buy a cheap winch...Winches from Axis and dunbier/Mackay are good winches. Go either strap or rope (its a fancy blue dynema style rope, high breaking strain)
depending on the 1 speed vs 3 speed and rope vs strap...should be between $110 and $180

Dont go steel cable...they are dangerous and crap

No problems mate

When i did mine few years back it was just 2 bolts but the bolt under the strap was the hardest.cos it was fidely and hard.to get the spanner in to hold the bolt from turning.

Changing the strap is easy 15 minute job.

If the winch is ok get a new strap, if the winch is rusty buy a new winch.

Jarrett are very good.

For small boats, this Meili boat winch strap is a great pick. It offers exceptional value since it already comes as a pack of 2 winch straps. The simplicity of the strap is another big selling point. It is effortless to secure my boat with these straps, preventing the load from bouncing and shifting while in transit. It has an easy-flip buckle, which is a breeze to use. Securing the strap is easy, unlike in those with bulky ratchets. It tightens and locks automatically, minimizing the effort required for the assembly of my boat on a trailer.
