Crab catching at Lakes Entrance
Hi guys,
We are going to Lakes Entrance this Saturday 17th Nov, as this is the first time we visit here, can anyone help to advise some ideas where we can do crabing and fishing (Sorry we do not have boat) and if there are pipis there?
Thanks in advance

Ok, well pipis are not common, there are a few on the surf beach but they are small and take quite a bit of digging to find.
Crabs, most crab from the jetty on Bullock Island, I am amazed there are any crabs left there. Any sandy area around the entrance will have crabs. Land based it is difficult to get to most areas. You could hire a boat from any of the three boat hire places on marine Parade.
You can also get Mussels and oysters from the rocks around the entrance channel. Plenty of places to walk to. Try going to Kalimna jetty and walking along the track that is on top of the rock walls. Best go at low tide.

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

I'll preface my response with a declaration that I come from North Queensland where the only proper crab worthy of making a meal is a Mud Crab...
So in saying that, for what I've seen folk taking from Bullock Island and surrounds is really isn't worth your trouble. I have never seen any sand crab in the past 2 years brought to the surface that has been bigger than 10cm.

The jetty in front of the post office is full of the European shore crabs. No bag limit on them either, take as many as you can they are a pest. Last year I was getting 10+ crabs every 5-10mins with 1 net.
I just use them for the flavour. Cook it with prawns/mussels in a seafood pasta with a white wine olive oil tomato and garlic sauce.
