Size 1/0 and anything above that is too big. Use a sz 4 hook, on a 3-4inch hooklink. Put sweetcorn on the hook.

I’ve caught thousands of carp. Grew up chasing them overseas.

I used to catch heaps of carp when I was younger and lived over in SA. Never used big hooks like that...

I used size 6-8 hooks - you shouldn't lose even the biggest fish on these if you set your drag on a low setting and spend the time to get them in. The only issue with this approach being snags / reeds, etc. My brother and I have caught carp up to about 10kg using this method in the Merri Creek in summer. There should be some big fish there at the moment - try anywhere below Coburg Lake - you can easily spot the schools of fish with polarised sunglasses.

I use size 10 or even smaller and I've rarely had a problem; and when I have it has been because I've put too much bait on the hook and the barb has not got enough purchase.

The hook catches on their thin but tough lips, so doesn't need to be big, they generally wont even take a big hooks.

No recreational fishers can't sell their catch, only commercial fishers can do that

You don't need fishing gear to catch carp, just punch them in the water.
