Nick, i would probably go tiller steer in a boat that size. I havent owned a tinny with forward controls of that size, but i know anyone sitting in the front seat of my old tinny would be thrown around quite a lot in any chop. It was teeth rattling stuff.

The trailer doesnt look great, but it could still be fine. Make sure you check out that rust on the drawbar. The outboard is pretty much the same as my old one.. early 2000's Merc which i had no issues with at all but obviously make sure it is good to go too.

My opinion here is that you will get a better ride sitting at the stern of the boat, which will take much less of a pounding. You will also get more deck space. And less issues with tiller steer as that boat most likely has a pulley system steering setup which i have never trusted in any of my boats.

Edit: actually another look at the photos and it does have cable steering, so that it a step in the right direction IMO.

Yea I'm dead against pulley steering I'd only have cable or hydraulic steering I've done a bit of research but too much to decide from

But that's where it ends for me.

Most tiller steers look like they are attempting to launch into space while taking off. Let alone the fact you cant see **** in front of you at this given point in time is a bad idea specially in low light conditions.

They most certainly are the pick of the crop if you want cheap and as much space as possible.
Power tilt and trim on the tiller is definitely a way to make tillers a better boat

Its fine at 4.2 to see where ya going...
When tillers go over 4.5 its gets hard to see from my experience...my tiller had swivel seat init and you could see fine...

I was in the same situation as you a few years back. I wanted to get back on the water and only had $6000 to spend. So i went with a Savage Kestral with a 25 Merc. It served me well until i was able to upgrade to something a little bigger.

If i was in your shoes i would be looking at something like this one, rather than the Quintrex.

Keep it simple & the less that can go wrong with it. Less weight will make a big difference in hole shot & overall speed. Easy to manually tilt the motor. Quicker turning. Keep the tank & the anchor up the front of the boat to even out the weight.
