Heard of a kayak hire company on lake tyers, getting a hobie for a couple days could be worth a shot. Would be a lot of peddling but i'd be up for it.
When I went in Easter I used these guys and I highly recommend them.
Aside from a decent rate for 4 or 8 hr hire periods, the yak comes with all the necessary safety gear, plus a lowrance sounder, dry bags, sea anchors, plenty of rod holders.. I was very impressed. ( or maybe I am just easily impressed :-) )

They have a variety of launching spots all across the Lakes district, just tell them where and when and they will be there. I nominated Tyers at sun-up and they were there all prepared, in advance. They have EFTpos as well, so you can finalize your transaction on-the-spot when you return to shore, no cash required.

Bringing this back as the trip is probably gonna be in within a fortnight of today.
If we were to go to lake tyers, would the west or east arm fish better? This would help me better decide on which site we would camp at.
Also are any other places nice to camp this time of year and worth the consideration e.g wilsons prom, or going back to the aire river?

cheers

What kind of gear do you have and how far are you willing to drive / walk?

Mostly light stuff, 2-4kg rods with 2000-3000 size reels on them. My heaviest would be a 7'5" 5-8kg rod with 6kg braid and a 4000 size reel. I love doing hikes and walks so i'm willing to go anywhere really

Lakes is a good bet.

Aire River is an awesome spot and I was going to suggest that you walk upstream from the GoR bridge and look for some trout, or go to Johanna beach and try for a gummy or a jew. If I didn't have beach rods I'd do lakes. The Mountains will be freaking freezing.
