Ovens River Pigs

Post by russellh2 » Wed Sep 11, 2019 5:09 pm

Fished Ovens River between Wangaratta and Yarrawonga this morning, arrived just after Sunrise but still had headlights on. Slowly driving along dirt track that follows the Ovens looking for likely spot to fish and had 2 pigs run across track in front of me - Momma - Jet Black followed closely behind by 1/2 grown Brindle - Never expected to see pigs in that area. Tooted horn, stopped and watched them both enter the river - Bub was on mums back behind shoulders as mum swam across river. Yes it is true - Please do not ask for exact location as I will not respond. Caught a Mud Marlin that did not find it's way back into the river.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Thanks Russell, you tell that exceptionally well, loved "Bubs" piggy backing piggy Mum. Absolutely love stories and encounters like these, shows the wonder of animals. What a great experience you would of had :)

My family seems to have an affinity with animals, stemming from my Dad's side. Mum, when she sees an animal out, she always says, they are lucky because she already has dinner sorted :o_0:

My Son seems to really be a Dr Doolittle.

Cheers, thanks for sharing such an awesome encounter

That's really interesting would have made an amazing photo. Good to see you culled a mud marlin no trout? Maybe a bit low in the stream for them?

Too far down Ovens for Trout, river is running strong and discoloured. Some tracks closed due to high water - Next trip November/December, hopefully will have dropped and cleared.

That'll please the farmers in the area no doubt. I didn't realise they came this far south, or is it more likely the local nuffies released them deliberately so they have something to shoot? I've heard that's a big problem in parts of Queensland where they're trying to reduce numbers around the banana growing spots.
