The area around the goulburn hasn't been burnt like the areas where they have been fish kills so ash run off shouldn't be an issue. It may have coloured up a bit from the rain but I haven't been there to check, I imagine it will be less affected than most rivers in that area

Sadly such fish kills were very much expected and I am sure it will be quite some time before we know the true extent of fish kills and waters that will be a priority for re-stocking. If carp are dying you can bet everything else will be dead as well as carp can survive where almost all other species are long dead. As least muddy water does not usually kill fish but the lack of oxygen after heavy ash contamination is what does the real damage. At least in the case of Victoria much of the State was spared widespread fires - not so East Gippsland and some of the Alpine areas though.
