Keilor Village Maribinong River Fishing

Post by Dean Bassing » Sun Feb 09, 2020 10:10 am

Hello everyone

Just wanted to know if anyone has tried fishing down in keilor village off of Flora Street under the calder freeway.

I went for a run the other day and found a spot directly under the calder freeway bridge which looked nice and succluded to throw in a line.

Me and a friend decided to give it a go lastnight with some worms and corn on a float, but didnt get a thing. Its looks like a promising place with lots of tree cover and very slow flowing water. I also tried a few wriggler grubs with some S Factor but got no bites

Has anyone ever been down there and caught anything? Surely there has to be a few carp or redfin swimming around.

Would love to know if anybody has tried fishing in that part of the river and of they have had any luck.

Thanks

There are definately carp and redfin there. I know 30 years ago there were quite a lot of native trout (Trout Galaxias) in the Brimbank park area.

Thanks Boonaza, i might head back down there tonight for a few hours and see how we go.

Have you ever caught anything in the little stretch under the bridge?

I haven't fish there for at least 30 years but I remember catching redfin and carp bait fishing but further down from the bridge.

Although I never fished this section of the Maribynong river I have followed the walking tracks in the area and there some nice pools with five minutes walk further back from the bridge toward Brimbank park.

I have fished there, and yes there is definitely carp and redfin. A friend of mine actually caught a trout there around 10 years ago, he couldn't believe his eyes when he pulled it in.

I just got back from an 2 session down keilor village.

Got 3 small to medium redfin. X2 on plasic wriggle tail grubs (dragonfruit colour) and one on live worms.

Got heaps of bites and lost 1 or 2 off the hook...it was really poping down there tonight...i even saw a few fish breach the surface through the night

I have been down there 2 or 3 times previously and have caught nothing...not even a bite.

Glad to finally land a few.

Just got back from another session down in keilor.

Caught a fat 37cm Tench, and 2 small redfin on worms in an hour.

This little spot is proving to be pretty damn fun!
