Yeah, it was inconsistent, it was rushed and it wasn't perfect. That's what happens when you've got a pandemic with a 3 day doubling time about to run wild through the state.Stumpjumper wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 2:13 pmAll that applies to surfing for example.....something the Vic govt flipped on and allows, same with kayaking. And of course all that doesn't seem to have had any negative outcomes in other states either, where fishing and hunting is allowed. Just requires you practice physical distancing and stay reasonably local.4liters wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 2:04 pmIt wouldn't, if it was a quiet fish by yourself.Stumpjumper wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 1:52 pmYou really need to read what I wrote. What evidence do you have that going for a quiet fish down the river away from people is going to kill thousands......or even one.
But if you allow that you'll also be allowing people to driving all over the state to their favourite fishing spot every weekend, standing shoulder to shoulder on piers and generally taking the ****. You get more trips to the shops, more trips to buy fuel and so on, the exact thing they're trying to avoid. The whole point of the lockdown was to reduce travel as much as humanly possible so a localised infection would stay that way and not get spread to every petrol station toilet between Melbourne and Portland because the barrels are on.
But the only thing worse would be if they came back after their initial statement and chopped and changed the rules, added caveats and conditions and so on. That would just confuse people and make the situation worse. The rules weren't perfect but we should all be glad they erred on the side of caution.
And as I've said, if a month and a half without fishing is the worst thing that happens to you this year you've done a hell of a lot better than a lot of other people.
