A young lad(19-21)who was working at the Star casino in Sydney made the trip to crown melb for a gambling weekend(casino employees are prohibited from gambling at their casino for obvious reasons) in early 2018.
More so because they know what machines are set to pay out at and when so they ban it outright.

Source: my brother who worked at a pokies place for a few years as a cook and wasnt allowed to gamble there same as all family was prohibited because he knew what ones were set and could tell us costing the buissness cash.
You’re right that when linked pokie machines in a venue approach the max payout it’s profitable to play said machines until the jackpot goes off. There was a considerable period where syndicates would enter a gaming premises with an impending jackpot and sit on all linked machines betting the minimum(often 1c) until the they scooped the jackpot. Winnings would be split among the members. This behavior is frowned upon by gaming venues and is much harder to implement with facial recognition cameras being employed by most pokie clubs.

I would just be happy that I could pay a bill without having to save for it .
In my my book if you can do that you are wealthy ......
If you’re born in Australia(indigenous Australians the exception) you’re likely in the world’s wealthiest 2-3% based on the world population...

Yep .. the pokies syndicates :)

From memories there was never an issue with this at CC - probably due to the large volume of machines so a syndicate can't possibly cover all bases to get a crack at the impending Jackpot. The other reason i would assume would be the highly security levels at CC from technology to staff.

Would like to explain a bit more how pokies payout work - hopefully once you understand the mathematics behind it, it is wise not to touch it on a regular basis. I still have the occasional flutter with the machines here and there but i know i will surely loose all my hard earns if i am there every day of the week.

At my time at CC, the payout rate for CC machines were in the low 90% comparing with the high 80% for the suburban pokies venue. Assuming CC set the machines to have a payout ratio of 90%, if I press the play button for bet $1 on the machine, then I have actually lost 10cents of the money i bet - the machine give me a prize of 90cents. I will press the play button again and bet this 90cents. So the machine returned to me 81cents, i again stupidly bet again, then i have lost 8.1cents and will get a return of 72.9cents ... So you can see that eventually you will loose all your monies. Of course, machines are programmed to have random periods of high payouts so to entice the gamblers with wrongly beliefs they can beat the machines.

Only worked there for a short period of time but it CC have certainly opened my eyes to the real world fast. Lot of lessons learnt and wouldn't have changed it if can travel back in time.

That must be why they have literally the worst life expectancy of any indigenous people in the developed world.

Haha Voodoo. I’m not sure about idolising him but Was great to see a ripper bloke I’ve known on forums for years have a win.

Andrews. Not sure how regional you live. But unfortunately $450k doesn’t get you much within metro train access of Melbourne.
Yeah, completely understand that $450k wouldn't get anywhere close to even a suburb of a suburb.
I'm more regional, fastest way to Melbourne is a 30 minutes drive to Geelong, for the 1h+ train ride to the city.
It's an extended travel, but that is the price you pay for this part of the bay.
